The early season has already delivered statement wins, emerging contenders, and a few reminders of who belongs in the title conversation. Here’s how the VA Prep Top 10 shakes out right now
1. Colgan
Colgan has come out of the gate dominant, opening the season at 5-0. A quality win over a competitive Mountain View squad highlights what has been a complete team performance so far. With dominant pitching backed by elite defense, Colgan looks every bit like the team to beat early in the season.
2. Osbourn Park
A familiar name in the Top 10, Osbourn Park continues to deliver. The road won’t be easy in the Cedar Run District, with Gainesville and Independence looming as key tests. Still, this is a battle-tested program we expect to make a deep regional—and possibly state—run.
3. Wakefield
At 4-0, Wakefield is thriving in the ultra-competitive Liberty District. Wins over strong programs like Lake Braddock and Yorktown stand out. The real measuring stick is still ahead, with district heavyweights McLean and Langley set to test their staying power.
4. McLean
Welcome back to the Top 10, McLean. Despite graduating key contributors, this group hasn’t skipped a beat. Early run-rule victories suggest the rebuild may be ahead of schedule. Bigger district challenges will reveal just how high their ceiling is.
5. Alexandria City
One of the newest entrants into the rankings, Alexandria City is undefeated and gaining attention quickly. A critical matchup against South County will provide a strong indicator of whether this team is ready to hold its place among the elite.
6. South County
South County has the talent—especially in the circle—to compete with anyone. A huge test against Alexandria City is immediately followed by a matchup with Hayfield, one of the preseason favorites. The next stretch will define their trajectory.
7. Westfield
Westfield picked up a solid early win over Woodson and continues to navigate the always-tough Concorde District. Consistency through district play will be key, but the talent is there for Westfield to climb.
8. Madison
Madison remains a VA Prep favorite for a late-season run. Early results include a narrow loss to private power Bishop O’Connell and a strong win over Langley. Taking on top-tier competition early should pay dividends come playoff time.
9. Mountain View
Mountain View rounds out the Top 10 with an impressive body of work despite a loss to #1 Colgan. With four strong wins otherwise, this team still looks like a serious contender for a deep state tournament run.
10. Gainesville
Gainesville is off to a strong start, highlighted by solid wins over Osbourn High School that show their ability to compete early in the season. A narrow loss to Independence High School suggests they can hang with top competition and are close to breaking through in key matchups. With that early performance, Gainesville looks poised for a promising season ahead.
