Not much has changed for this week, as it’s spring break for many schools. And while the exhibition games don’t factor into the VHSL rankings, there are some interesting trends we can project out as we head into the back half of the softball season.
Class 6
- MADISON continues to lead the Class 6 rankings (still undefeated in VHSL)– but there are cracks in the armor. MADISON had a good week of exhibition play, but lost to NY state-leading team CORNING-PAINTED POST. MADISON will face a strong SOUTH LAKES team this week.
- MCLEAN remains undefeated through the exhibition games this week. MCLEAN looks to be in good position to be the regular season champions heading in to the Liberty district tournament.
- GLEN ALLEN has had a few close games– but remains undefeated without a major game upcoming. Two solid wins over this week have moved them up a spot.
- WESTERN BRANCH remains undefeated and none of the games they’ve played have been difficult wins. And with no major games on the horrizon, expect WESTERN BRANCH to continue winning, even facing good teams like GREAT BRIDGE this week.
- OAKTON has several games this week, including Concordia power house MADISON. So we’ll see where OAKTON lands at the end of this next week.
Class 5
- KELLAM will face KEMPSVILLE this week, which may chose a (manageable) challenge to our Class 5 leader.
- MIDLOTHIAN has a relatively light schedule before they head in to post-season play, so we don’t expect MIDLOTHIAN to drop out of the top five any time soon.
- LIGHTRIDGE will be facing a strong STONE BRIDGE team this week, but we expect LIGHTRIDE to remain undefeated at weeks end.
- GODWIN will be tested this week with a tough game against DEEP RUN.
- HICKORY makes the top 5 this week after PRINCE GEORGE suffered a loss to DINWIDDIE. HICKORY rounds out our undefeateds for the week.
