Region 4A
Region 4A traditionally features several programs capable of making deep postseason runs.
Gloucester has been one of the more consistent contenders in the region and should once again be in the mix for the regional title. The Dukes have built a reputation for strong pitching and disciplined defense, traits that often translate well in postseason play.
Warhill has also been competitive in recent seasons and should challenge for one of the region’s state tournament spots. The Lions typically field balanced lineups and have the experience to compete in tight regional matchups.
Churchland and Smithfield are additional programs capable of factoring into the regional race. Both teams have produced competitive seasons in recent years and could emerge as challengers if their pitching staffs develop over the course of the season.
With several evenly matched teams, Region 4A could see a tightly contested regional tournament.
Region 4B
Region 4B, centered around the Richmond area, is typically one of the stronger and deeper regions in Class 4.
Caroline has been one of the premier programs in the region and will again enter the season as a contender. The Cavaliers consistently field strong lineups and have the experience needed to compete deep into the postseason.
King George should also be a major factor in the regional race. The Foxes have built a competitive program and have shown the ability to challenge the region’s top teams.
Patrick Henry and Eastern View are also teams capable of making a regional run. Both programs have demonstrated the ability to compete with the region’s best and could position themselves for a state tournament berth.
With several experienced programs, Region 4B should once again produce one of the stronger representatives in the Class 4 state tournament.
Region 4C
Region 4C is anchored by several Loudoun County programs that consistently compete at a high level.
Tuscarora has been one of the more successful programs in the region and will likely enter the season as a regional favorite. The Huskies have combined strong pitching with offensive depth in recent years.
Broad Run and Woodgrove should also be serious contenders. Both programs have produced strong seasons and have the experience necessary to compete in the regional tournament. Heritage is additional teams that could factor into the race. With strong district competition preparing these teams throughout the season, Region 4C should once again produce several competitive matchups.
Region 4D
Region 4D covers much of western and southwestern Virginia and often produces disciplined teams that are difficult opponents in postseason play.
Jefferson Forest has been one of the more consistent programs in the region and will likely enter the season as a contender for the regional championship.
James Wood and Millbrook should also be competitive. Both programs have demonstrated the ability to compete in strong district play and could make a push toward the regional finals. Amherst County is an additional teams capable of factoring into the race. With several balanced teams in the region, the postseason tournament could come down to pitching performances and timely hitting.
