Week Update – Classes 4, 5, and 6

Class 4

Top 10

  1. Amherst County (12-0)
  2. Patrick Henry (Ashland) (6-0)
  3. Eastern View (12-1)
  4. Sherando (8-1)
  5. King George (7-1)
  6. James Wood (7-1)
  7. Loudoun County (6-1)
  8. Mecklenburg County (6-1)
  9. Heritage (Leesburg) (5-1)
  10. Woodgrove (4-1)

Analysis

Amherst County continues to separate itself from the field, remaining undefeated and showing no signs of slowing down. Their balance of pitching and timely hitting has made them the most consistent team in Class 4, and at this point, they look like a strong favorite to make a deep postseason run. Patrick Henry (Ashland) holds firm at #2 and continues to build momentum, even with a lighter schedule this week against Massaponax.

The middle of the rankings is where things get interesting, as several key matchups are set to shake up the standings. Eastern View and King George meet in a pivotal Battlefield District showdown, while Sherando and James Wood face off in a Northwestern District clash. These games should provide much-needed clarity in the race behind Amherst County and could lead to significant movement in next week’s rankings.

Class 5

Top 10

  1. Lightridge (10-0)
  2. Ocean Lakes (7-1)
  3. Matoaca (5-1)
  4. Riverbend (10-1)
  5. Great Bridge (8-1)
  6. Hickory (8-1)
  7. Deep Run (7-1)
  8. Kecoughtan (7-1)
  9. Deep Creek (7-1)
  10. Kellam (8-2)

Analysis

Class 5 saw one of the biggest shakeups of the season, driven largely by the impact of Patrick Henry (Ashland) from Class 4. Patrick Henry stunned Matoaca in a 2-1 win despite not recording a hit, capitalizing on defensive miscues, and followed that up with another impressive win over Deep Run. Those results reshaped the top tier and opened the door for Lightridge to claim the #1 spot.

Lightridge has earned that position as the only remaining undefeated team in the class, combining dominant pitching with just enough offense to win tight games, including a statement victory over Class 6 Langley. Riverbend also took a hit this week with its first loss of the season to Mountain View, reinforcing how competitive the top of Class 5 has become. With Matoaca and Riverbend set to meet soon, the class remains wide open, and the next stretch of games could ultimately determine who emerges as the true favorite heading into the postseason.

Class 6

Top 10

  1. Madison (5-0)
  2. Mountain View (10-1)
  3. Forest Park (7-1)
  4. Western Branch (7-1)
  5. West Springfield (7-1)
  6. Wakefield (7-1)
  7. McLean (5-1)
  8. Hayfield (9-2)
  9. Osbourn Park (8-2)
  10. Lake Braddock (7-2)

Analysis

Madison continues to hold the top spot, remaining undefeated in VHSL play and firmly in control of the Concorde District. They have shown consistency week after week and appear well positioned to maintain their standing as the postseason approaches. Mountain View sits just behind them after an impressive stretch that includes a win over Class 5 contender Riverbend, though a close game against Woodbridge and an earlier loss to Colgan suggest they will still be tested down the line.

Forest Park remains a strong presence at #3 with only a single loss to Gainesville, and their upcoming matchup against Osbourn Park should provide another measuring stick. Western Branch and West Springfield both face important games that could either solidify or shake their positions, particularly with strong opponents on the schedule. Meanwhile, Wakefield and McLean continue to represent the Liberty District well, even as Langley makes a compelling case to break into the Top 10 after head-to-head wins over both teams. Hayfield, quietly consistent, remains a team to watch as the season progresses, especially given their ability to compete with other top-tier programs.
