We’re a couple of weeks away from post-season, but there are already some front-runners for the District Tournaments.
Cardinal District – Woodbridge Senior is the likely #1 seed, but Colgan may be able to win out and secure the #1 seed as well. This week’s game between Colgan and Forest Park should be a good one.
Cedar Run District – Osbourn Park is currently in the lead with 10-2, but Freedom, Battlefield, Patriot, and John Champe could all have a chance for the #1 seed based on the last few games, too.
Concord District – Returning state champions Madison is in the driver’s seat. But it’s going to be close, with Centreville, Westfield, and South Lakes all in the running for the #1 seed. Look for a great week of softball as all four teams will have match ups against each other to determine the Concord District #1 seed.
Liberty District – McLean looks to have the #1 seed locked up. The #2 seed likely going to Langley. Wakefield needs to win its next two games in order to be come out ahead, but then Langley and Wakefield would be even in their district head to head matchups, and Langley will lead by run differentials.
National District – Hayfield, Thomas Edison, and Falls Church are all fighting for the #1 seed. Hayfield looks dominant with the only VHSL Class 6 team that remains undefeated. The final game for Falls Church will be against Hayfield, so should be the game to watch.
Patriot District – This one is a four-way race between very good teams. Lake Braddock, Robinson, West Potomac, and West Springfield are all vying for the #1 seed.
Other Districts – With teams from several different districts — Beach, Blue Ridge, Central, Commonwealth, Dominion, and Southeastern– it’s difficult to tell how this will all shake out for Region A. But Kellam looks to be the dominant team this year with only one loss. But Cosby (last year’s VHSL 6 runner up), Western Branch, Franklin County, and Grassfield all have had dominant seasons.
