Region 5B Updates (06-04-25)

🏆 Region 5B Softball Final: Kecoughtan and Granby Set for High-Stakes Rematch

As the VHSL Class 5 state tournament approaches, all eyes in Region 5B turn to Stoney Run Complex, where two battle-hardened teams—Kecoughtan and Granby—will clash in a championship rematch with both history and redemption on the line.

⚔️ Kecoughtan: Warriors Peaking at the Perfect Time

After a rocky start to their season, Kecoughtan has found their rhythm at just the right moment. The Warriors stormed through the always-competitive Peninsula District, demonstrating why they’re once again among the elite in Class 5. Building on last year’s impressive 17–5 run and state tournament appearance, the 2025 squad has proven it has both the talent and resilience to go further. In the Region 5B semifinals, No. 1 seed Kecoughtan blanked No. 4 Maury 6–0 behind a clinical performance from their pitcher. The ace scattered six hits over seven innings, striking out six and issuing zero walks in a complete-game shutout. But the Warriors didn’t just win on defense. A key three-run homer established a comfortable victory. Kecoughtan clinched their ticket to the state tournament with authority.

🚀 Granby: Norfolk’s History-Making Comets Look for More

If Kecoughtan is riding momentum, Granby is fueled by legacy. The Comets already made Norfolk Public School history by becoming the first team to ever reach the state semifinals. But they’re not satisfied. After winning the Region 5B title last year—defeating Kecoughtan in the process—Granby is back, more confident and battle-tested than ever. In their semifinal matchup, No. 2 Granby took down No. 3 Menchville 4–0 thanks to a near-flawless outing by their pitcher, who allowed just two hits across seven shutout innings. Granby’s balance on both sides of the ball gives them the tools to repeat—and maybe even take the next step at states.

🏅 A Championship Rematch Loaded with Stakes

Thursday’s Region 5B final at 5 p.m. at Stoney Run is more than just a championship game—it’s a rematch with revenge, respect, and regional dominance at stake.

  • For Kecoughtan, it’s a shot at redemption after last year’s title game heartbreak.
  • For Granby, it’s a chance to reassert themselves as a perennial power and keep their history-making run alive.

Regardless of the outcome, both teams have already punched their ticket to the VHSL Class 5 state tournament—but only one will enter it as Region 5B champions.

Clear your Thursday schedule. This one has all the makings of a classic.
